Partnership with Parents

Settling-in Sessions

We are delighted to welcome prospective children at any time before their admission and parents have the option to spend time with their child in the setting, thereby, enabling the child to become familiar with the surroundings and staff. Although during social isolation periods, due to the COVID pandemic, we will limit the amount of time that parents can spend in the setting. It is our aim to make the transition as happy as possible. Children need time to adjust and some settle more easily than others.

Parents’ Involvement

We invite and encourage parents to be involved in their child’s learning journey and actively include them in special events. Examples of this include,

Tapestry – Our Parent's Portal:

We give all our parents access to Tapestry, an easy-to-use and secure online learning journal helping both us and families celebrate their children’s learning and development.

Tapestry builds a very special record of a child’s experiences, development and learning journey through their early years. Using photos, videos and diary entries, an early years practitioner, along with the child’s parents, ‘weaves’ the story of the child and how they are growing and developing. The Tapestry platform then works seamlessly to enable these memories to be kept as a permanent record of each child’s unique journey. All information held in the platform is stored securely, and can be downloaded and shared as required. Parents are able to view online their child’s progress and their participation in various learning activities whilst also uploading their own comments and media.

The communication between key workers and parents that Tapestry enables helps build a shared understanding of how every child can reach their full potential. The Tapestry online learning journal is also available as an easy-to-use, secure app, meaning capturing key learning moments, and videoing milestones are even easier.

Parent Consultations and Home Learning

We regularly hold parent consultations for you to meet with your child’s key staff and to discuss your child’s development in more detail. These are opportunities also for staff to provide suggestions to parents about what they could do at home to support their child’s learning, such as reading a wide range of stories, focusing on the sounds at the start of words and other phonics activities, pointing out and commenting on what they see when out and about with their child and so on. We recognise the importance of the home learning environment and value the working partnership we will have with our children’s parents.

Parent Feedback

Our aim is to continuously improve how we run our nursery and always give children the best learning experience. Therefore, at Southover Pre-school, your feedback on how you feel the nursery is performing and your child’s progress is very important to us. We operate an open-door policy on a daily basis for general comments and suggestions as well as issuing a formal Annual Parent Survey.
